Uzbekistan has stepped up purchases of

In April 2025, Uzbekistan saw a sharp increase in imports of hot-rolled rolled products for the needs of enterprises producing rolled steel with polymer and zinc coating. According to industry experts, the total supply of feedstock has more than doubled and reached about 85 thousand tons. The main dynamics was provided by the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant (TMZ).
TMZ alone accounted for 59,000 tons, which is 2.7 times higher than in March. Such a volume of feed is capable of providing the plant with continuous loading for three months at the current production rate, or for about two months if the load increases due to the approach of the peak construction season.
Samarkand Metallurgical Plant (SMZ) has also increased imports. The supply of feedstock for it increased by 42%, almost reaching the mark of 26 thousand tons. This is due to both the growing demand in the domestic market and increased external demand, as well as plans to expand production capacities.
It is noteworthy that the entire April volume of feed received by both enterprises was purchased from Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, one of the largest producers in the CIS.
According to the results of the first four months of 2025, the total import of hot-rolled rolled products to Uzbekistan for further coating purposes reached 193 thousand tons, which is 54% more than in the same period of 2024. Of these, 125,000 tons were delivered to TMZ (+41%), and 68,000 tons were delivered to SMZ (+85%).
The increase in imports and expansion of capacities indicate a stabilization of the sector and a revival of demand in the coated steel market both inside and outside Uzbekistan.
